Ministry of War or Terra Militaris (EU) focuses on ancient world war. With beautiful graphics and real-time combat, browser-based Ministry of War is a strategy game with strong city-building elements as well. Combat is obviously the backbone of the game, but a well-designed technology tree keeps it from being a simple combat simulator. There is no avoiding war, though, and only one nation may wear the laurel wreath of Champion before the server resets.

This free-to-play MMORTS game lets players mastermind the great armies of one of four ancient military forces: Rome, Persia, Egypt, or China. Each nation has its strengths and weaknesses that correspond to their real-world counterparts. Romans, for example, benefit from a high degree of organization, but cost more to train and equip than other troops. Nations also have non-military benefits that pay off in different ways. One novel feature of the game is religion; the spread of different faiths influences the course of battles and affects how NPC territories perceive them.

Ministry of War evolves as servers age, progressing through five eras of cultural and technological advancement. This unusual feature gives the game a greater sense of realism and a more lasting appeal. Form alliances with other players and conquer the world.
